What are you itching to try out on Leopard?

Well, the word is out. Leopard will be landing in stores on the 26th of October as rumored. The good news for Apple fans that recently purchased Macs, is that a purchase on or after the 1st of October is authorized an upgrade to Leopard. It is still hazy if it will be free or somewhere around $9, but we shall see. I will be keeping a close eye since I have recently purchased a Mac.

I checked out the 300+ new features for Leopard earlier, and was astonished by how much stuff they squeezed into the OS. I predict that I won’t use most of the features more than the one or 2 times I use them when I first upgrade.

Spaces
I have been waiting for Spaces ever since the first Leopard preview. I often have several windows open at once, and at present, I have 9 open. Would love to throw my mail in a separate window, and maybe have some DVD burning going on in another.

Dashboard

The dashboard looks to have a huge makeover. One of the dashboard features I am waiting for is the drag and drop widget making. There is a lot of potential there, and I can’t wait to try this feature out for myself and see where it goes. I tend to be pretty widget happy, and being able to create widgets at will would be awesome.

Better than Adium

Sorry Adium. You have held it down for well over a year now, but iChat is about to take back over. In Leopard, iChat supports multiple chat clients AND supports the voice and video features on your Mac. Adium was good while it lasted. I have it open almost every second during my surfing times. Sadly, whenever I want to do a video chat, I have to log into iChat to get it accomplished. Not all of my friends have iChat though.

I plan on walking into the Apple store and grabbing my copy. Don’t think I can wait any second longer than 10:00am on the 26th.

What feature are you guys waiting for?

I went ahead and bought a 8,95 euro Leopard upgrade.. Here in The Netherlands http://www.apple.com/nl/macosx/uptodate/ we have to pay….

Nevertheless I am REALLY excited .. Like most mac fans this is what we have been waiting for many months.. There are many features I am excited to try out.. However, I can only give you an honest review after I have had the opportunity to test it.. *wink*

I am looking forward to Quicklook and Coverflow in the Finder. They will save me from having to open apps when I am looking for something. Hopefully it will work with Adobe files, because those apps take forever to open. Having recently gone through a nearly catAstrophe hard drive failure, I am also really excited about time machine.

But it iChat doesn’t support MSN witho out use of jabber does it?

I agree with Time Machine Joey. No way I can jack up any saves anymore once I have that. The coverflow is getting worn out though man. Working with Adobe would be a big plus though.

Screensharing - where you can control another Mac from yours. Second to that, Quicklook, and Spaces.

It looks nice but is it just a makeover?

It all looks very impressive, though the “professionally design HTML email stationery” makes my heart sink. Shades of Outlook Express circa 1998.

There’s a whole lot more to iChat vs. Adium than the video support, and iChat’s support for multiple IM services is completely unchanged relative to the version in 10.4. iChat’s made some great strides forward with 10.5… but don’t think that we’ve been resting on our laurels in the Adium world :)

I see what you are saying with coverflow, its everywhere. However I think file browseing is what Coverflow was meant for. It will be nice to see and read the first page of documents while I am browsing through them. Right now I use Bridge when I can, but that is a bloated mess from Adobe so its slow :(.

@Joey: The demos of coverflow look great in terms of usage. We shall see on the 26th though.

@Evan: Sounds like Adium has something up it’s sleeve. Can’t wait to see what you guys have in store. Been using Adium for a while now.

@Webomatica: The screen sharing is ace. Me personally, I wouldn’t have much use for it. In the helpdesk world, it will be awesome.
